Dear Colleagues
The 10th International Symposium on Therapeutic Ultrasound was closed with great success on June 12, 2010.
The summary of the symposium is shown below.
The success of the symposium was brought by the active contribution of participants.
On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, I would like to thank all of you for your participation to this symposium. It is obvious that the international interest in therapeutic ultrasound is rapidly growing and the International Society on Therapeutic Ultrasound will play a significant role in advancing our future healthcare and welfare. I cordially encourage you to join the society and participate in the annual symposium. The next symposium will be held in New York from April 10-13.

Best regards,

Chair of ISTU10: Yoichiro Matsumoto

Dear Colleagues (Welocome message)
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I would like to cordially invite you to participate in the 10th International Symposium on Therapeutic Ultrasound, which will be held from June 9 to 12, 2010 in the center of Tokyo, Japan.

The rapidly expanding interest in applications of therapeutic ultrasound, both in the research environment and in clinical practice, has led to the creation of a number of groups around the world who work on these problems. In order to integrate and provide a method to promote worldwide collaborations, the International Society for Therapeutic Ultrasound (ISTU) was founded in 2001 and the first symposium was held in Chongqing. Since then, the International Symposium on Therapeutic Ultrasound (ISTU) was successfully held in Seattle, Lyon, Kyoto, Boston, Oxford, Seoul, Minneapolis and Aix en Provence.

The use of ultrasound for therapy has a long history. Research on high intensity ultrasound to ablate cancers began more than 50 years ago. However, for various reasons diagnostic ultrasound became the most widespread use of ultrasound in medicine. Recently, due to several technical breakthroughs and discoveries, therapeutic ultrasound has again caught the attention of many scientists, engineers and clinicians as a new non-invasive form of therapy for various diseases. High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is starting to be commonly used in patients. Image-guided HIFU like MR-HIFU and other applications of ultrasound energy to enhance drug effectivity and so on are now rapidly developing.

The scientific program of the symposium will cover all the fields of therapeutic ultrasound from the basic bioeffects of ultrasound to clinical case presentations using HIFU, in addition to the combination of drugs and ultrasound energy involving gene therapy, sonoporation, transdermal drug delivery, microbubbles, chemotherapy, sonodynamic therapy, cardiovascular applications, and many others. We look forward to welcoming you to the 10th International Symposium on Therapeutic Ultrasound (ISTU10).
